Living a positive life first starts with loving yourself. Waking up in the mornings and going about your day with a positive attitude makes a huge difference in your life, but I think the first step is learning how to appreciate and love the person you are. At 21 years old, I am still trying to figure out how to love myself completely. I have grown so much in the past 3 years of college being away from family and relationships. I learned a lot about what I want and who I want to be. I had to figure out that in order to be the woman I want to become I have to first learn to love myself in the process. There are 5 things I think are essential to learning to love yourself.
Self Care: It is okay to be sad sometimes but do not neglect yourself. Take care of your body, mind and soul. This has been the key to my happiness when I am stressed. Going to the gym after a rough day relieves my stress. There is nothing like putting on some headphones and tuning out the world. Devote some time everyday to yourself! Whether it is putting a face mask on, going for a run, or painting. Do what YOU love to do for a short time everyday.
Being optimistic about life: I always believed that the energy you put out into the world will eventually come back to you. Be hopeful and confident about your future. Think less about the negative things going on in your life and more about the positives, which leads me to my next point.
Cut out the negative thoughts: I think this is the hardest part. We all have thoughts about self-doubt, thinking we are not good enough. I think the hardest part of being in this generation is self comparison. Looking at everyone around you, the same age, whose doing better than you. Comparison is THE thief of joy. If you find yourself comparing, immediately try to stop thinking about the negative thoughts.
Forgive yourself for your mistakes: Every single person you know is human. We all make mistakes big or small. We all have regrets. Holding on to the past will only keep you there. No one knows or understands YOUR story, so forget them!
Have a purpose: I think this is the most important. I try to wake up every morning and remind myself of my purpose in life, the end ultimate goal. Remind yourself what you want out of life, and wake up every morning with a short-term goal to work towards. I have found this so helpful in changing my attitude towards my day no matter what mood I wake up in.
Overall, it is important to learn to love yourself then everything else will fall into place. ❤
I cannot tell you how many times I have sat on the edge of my bed thinking about my life, all the missed opportunities and what if’s. When the idea of spending my summer in Puerto Rico first came up I thought it was crazy. There was no way I was leaving home for an entire summer. The thoughts of missing out on summer nights with my friends was killing me. I didn’t want to miss out on all the memories. I eventually realized from friends drilling it into my head, that I couldn’t miss an opportunity to live on an island for a summer. There was so much to do like learn to speak better Spanish, see the island, surround myself with culture, maybe even learn how to make some flan! After many long nights of thinking I made the decision, I was going to Puerto Rico for a summer and I was going to make the best of it. The scariest part of it all was being out of my comfort zone. Leaving a city to an island is a big difference.
Today makes a month of being here and I cannot tell you how many beautiful sites I have got to see and people I have gotten to meet. In all, I am here to tell you the rest of your life is being shaped right now. By the dreams you chase. The choices you make. And the person you decide to be. You will never be as young as you are right now, so please please please take every opportunity. It may not always be the best, but you might end up with more than you expected. By the way, Puerto Rico is better than I imagined. Grateful to not have one more missed opportunity.
Let me start off saying I absolutely love Starbuck’s green tea frappuccino, so much that I wanted to learn how to make them at home. This recipe is a more healthier version. I thought this would be the perfect way to start my days before heading to class. When I found green tea matcha powder in Marshalls I was so inspired, hopefully I can create even more delicious snacks with it! Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients. I have found some interesting things about the effects green tea has on your body.
- Skincare. Green tea can apparently help with signs of aging! The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities is the reason for this. Studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can also reduce sun damage.
- Weight Loss. Studies have shown, people who drink green tea, burn up to an extra 100 calories per day due to the antioxidants called catechins (ECGC and polyphenols) in the tea.
- Diabetes. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes for diabetics which could potentially cause fat storage.
- 1 cup of ice cubes
- 1 cup of milk (I used almond milk as a healthier alternative, feel free to try whichever milk you prefer!)
- 3 TBSP of organic cane sugar
- 3 TSP of green tea matcha powder
- 1/4 TSP of vanilla extract
Instructions: Simply put all ingredients into the blender and blend well. Pour into a glass and enjoy! You could even add some whip cream on top.
I cannot remember the last time I did not use most (if not all) of these products in my daily makeup routine. I love incorporating new products in my routine but I always come back to these few!
I always find myself coming back to the neutral colors of this Too Faced chocolate bar palette. If I had to pick one color to use on my eyes for the rest of my life it would be a brown shade, no doubt about it. Which pretty much goes to show why I love this palette so much. The color shades, pigmentation, and formula is by far my favorite. The palette also smells like chocolate, which just might be my favorite part.
Speaking of eyeshadow, these brushes from Sephora are my favorite brushes to apply eyeshadow. I could do my entire eyeshadow look with just these 3 brushes.
If I need my eyeshadow to stay on all night, I would recommend the Urban Decay eyeshadow potion. I have been using this for years and cannot seem to find anything I like better. Not only does it keep your makeup on all night but it makes applying eyeshadow easier. The formula under your eyeshadow gives the shades so much pigmentation!
Now if you have heard anyone say the best drugstore eyeliner is the NYC black liquid eyeliner, they were not lying! This eyeliner is so black and glides on so perfectly with the brush it comes with. Even better, it is less than 3 bucks! If you come across it you have to try it.
As for my favorite drugstore foundation Maybelline Fit Me foundation is my go-to. Something about it just leaves my skin looking flawless!
I use the Elf daily hydrating moisturizer to skin prep. It gives my face this hydrated glow before I apply my foundation. Finding a moisturizer to use under your foundation is the key to having your skin look flawless, it’s the little things!
Whenever I want the false lash look without actually putting on lashes I use Better Than Sex Mascara from Too Faced. This mascara does magic to your lashes, literally.
I always get so many compliments when I wear this Laura Geller Baked Blush. I have the color pink grapefruit. It can be hard to find a blush that looks good with my skin complexion but this color makes me glow!
