Here’s a photoset from my walk through La Guancha Boardwalk in Ponce, Puerto Rico. This boardwalk is such a fun place to take your family. You can walk the boardwalk listening to live music, stop and see the local vendors, grab a bite of some authentic spanish food, and taste some of the most refreshing drinks.  There is also a boat tour available on weekends that offer full-day trips to Isla Caja del Muertos. And let’s not forget about the Pelicans.  The pelicans also take advantage of the lively atmosphere, and will sit on the railings, waiting for people to feed them. If you’re ever in Puerto Rico and want to feel a strong sense of culture, this is a great day trip!

Let me start off saying I absolutely love Starbuck’s green tea frappuccino, so much that I wanted to learn how to make them at home. This recipe is a more healthier version. I thought this would be the perfect way to start my days before heading to class. When I found green tea matcha powder in Marshalls I was so inspired, hopefully I can create even more delicious snacks with it! Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients. I have found some interesting things about the effects green tea has on your body.

  1. Skincare. Green tea can apparently help with signs of aging! The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities is the reason for this. Studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can also reduce sun damage.
  2. Weight Loss. Studies have shown, people who drink green tea, burn up to an extra 100 calories per day due to the antioxidants called catechins (ECGC and polyphenols) in the tea.
  3. Diabetes. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes for diabetics which could potentially cause fat storage.

RECIPE

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice cubes
  • 1 cup of milk (I used almond milk as a healthier alternative, feel free to try whichever milk you prefer!)
  • 3 TBSP of organic cane sugar
  • 3 TSP of green tea matcha powder
  • 1/4 TSP of vanilla extract

Instructions: Simply put all ingredients into the blender and blend well.  Pour into a glass and enjoy! You could even add some whip cream on top.

 

When I decided to spend the summer in Puerto Rico I promised myself to take advantage of opportunity that comes along with living on a island. Growing up in a city has made it hard for me to go on the adventures that make my heart full. Today I headed for the mountains, finding a beautiful river and swimming pool. Todays adventure was full of swimming, dominoes, and food from the island. A day well spent.

Finally, finally, finally! I have always wanted to jet-ski but being from Philadelphia makes it hard. The water of the Delaware River is not very tempting and not the prettiest ocean water I want to fall in. I got the opportunity to jet-ski from Puerto Rico to Gilligan’s island and it was amazing! Made a few stops along the way to look at corals, fishes, and some luxury beach homes. There is nothing like being on the water on one of these bad boys. This experience encouraged me to go get my license one day and own a jet-ski. Isn’t that the dream? Tying a jet-ski to the back of the jeep and heading to the ocean. Maybe now that my parents live in Puerto Rico I can spend my summers on the water.
